SEND - Information in English

What is SEND?
SEND is a Nordic partnership for continuing education of judges. The SEND partnership was formed in 1989 when a Nordic meeting was held in Finland. During the meeting a Nordic board consisting of representatives from every Nordic country was organised (with the eception of Iceland who became a member later). 

The first chairman of SEND was Mr. Lars Åhlén, at that time Director General of the National Courts Administration, Domstolsverket (DV). The secretariat is therefore stationed in the Swedish National Courts Administration.

SEND´s Organisation
SEND consists of at board with two representatives from each Nordic country, that is Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland. Chairman is the chief judge of the District Court of Uppsala, Sweden (Uppsala tingsrätt), Mr. Fredrik von Arnold.

Secretariat
The secretariat of SEND is still located in the permissions of the DV and the Department for Staff Training, Mrs. Janita Frödén.

Tasks
The tasks of the SEND is to promote and develop the Nordic Partnership and exchanges between judges in the countries. These tasks are for example realized with seminars for judges from all the Nordic countries 1-2 times a year. The responsibility for those seminars vary from a decided schedule among the countries.

SEND:s arrangements in 2007 were a seminar concerning the process in the district courts, in Copenhagen, Denmark May 23-25 2007 and a seminar, also in Copenhagen, September 10-12 2007 concerning the courts of appeal.

In 2008 SEND arranged a leadership seminar in Stockholm, Sweden, May 14-16 2008.

In 2009 the seminars were held in Stockholm, Sweden, May 4-6 and in Åbo, Finland, September 7-9.

In 2010 SEND arranged two seminars, June 14-16 in Stavanger, Norway and September in Denmark (date will be published later).
